Lines to the Load is the golden rule to winching. Every time a line is added at the load (casualty), the weight on the line is reduced. Simply divide the resistance by the number of lines running to the load.
For example, a line connected directly to the load will have 100% of the load:
If the winch line is fed through a snatch block and a second line is created, the load will be divided between the two lines:

If two lines, both from an independent winch, were connected to the same load, the load will not be split evenly.
To compensate for this, the lines must be married together. This is accomplished by feeding one line through a snatch block and connected it to the second line. The snatch block can then be hooked into a wrinkle with two chains set for the appropriate veer angle.
