The following photographs are going to demonstrate that every result is a consequence of a choice that we make at some point in time. Every consequence has not a reaction to your choice but maybe the choice has someone before you. Have a look at the damage observed on some of these tow trucks. You can see significant boom damage. To prevent damage to the recovery boom of the tow truck, an operator must be fully aware of the forces that are encountered while towing and recovering vehicles. An operator should familiarize himself with ways to calculate the load weight and then rig accordingly.
Extending the boom too far when you could have positioned closer, while keeping the boom retracted. Cases like that can prevent damage to the boom. Making sure you know the load’s weight and rigging accordingly. Lifting the boom or elevating the boom when appropriate. All of these are cases which can cause damage to the recovery boom.
We as humans are not the only thing on this Earth with a memory. Have a look at a recovery boom or any piece of igging that we use- it also has a memory. Every time we exceed the working load limit or we overdo a piece of rigging, we’re adding it to remember that case. Repeated abuse or overloading of rigging can result in it failing prematurely. Again, if you overload your rigging and underestimate the load size or weight, you can cause damage to the recovery boom or supporting rigging. Always working within your readings working load limit and the capacities of the boom and company rigging will lead to a longer life in a safer recovery.
