Lesson 3: Eligibility Requirements
TOW OPERATOR ELIGIBILITY
Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (CVOR):
Must have a valid CVOR certificate.
Insurance Requirements:
• Commercial liability insurance
• Consumer vehicle insurance
• Cargo coverage
Safety and Inspection Standards:
Compliance with MTO vehicle standards.
Criminal Record Check:
Must pass a CRJMC and meet legal standards.
TOW TRUCK DRIVER ELIGIBILITY
Valid Ontario Driver’s Licence:
Minimum G class required.
Mandatory Training:
Must complete an MTO-approved towing safety course, (such as the Ontario Tow Truck driver Training from towtruckdrivertraining.ca).

Criminal Record and Licensing Status:
No disqualifying convictions; active and valid license.
VEHICLE STORAGE OPERATOR ELIGIBILITY
Insurance:
Facility must be insured for liability and property damage.
Zoning Compliance:
Storage yard must meet local municipal zoning regulations.
Legal & Safety Standards:
Must meet all municipal and provincial safety codes.
